MESSAGE OF THE DEAN
As dean School of Veterinary Medicine I am delighted to welcome future students and other website visitors including researchers, guests, alumni, and community members. The choice to become a veterinarian is a thrilling opportunity. Becoming a veterinarian is more than a career choice, it‟s a calling. A call to contribute to the well-being, healing, new discoveries, andenhancement of both animals and the people closely connected to them. The diverse agroecology and agronomic practice of Ethiopia enables to produce and endorse the huge livestock population in Africa and also in the world.

According to a CSA (2021) livestock sample survey, Ethiopia possesses 70.3 million cattle, 42.9 million sheep, 52.5 million goats and 8.1 million camels. Livestock sector serve for Ethiopian economy as sources of food, traction, manure, raw materials, investment, cash income, security, foreign exchange earnings and social and cultural identity (FAO, 2012). As veterinarians we are in contact with such enormous variety of domestic and wild animals and provide effective and efficient diagnostic systems, and local and national regulatory systems for animal health, food safety, and public health (Osburn et al., 2009).
Therefore, as school of veterinary medicine we are committed to providing the student with an exceptional education that combines rigorous academic training with hands-on experience that will resolve limitations encountered with veterinary services in livestock population of the country. Our faculty members are not just educators; they are mentors here to guide and inspire the students throughout their academic journey. The curriculum is also designed to prepare the students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the dynamic field of veterinary medicine. The teaching learning system is practical and research-based approach with special modality with off campus courses. As a result, the student have developed the confidence in communication, theoretical knowledge and practical aspects for required standard of veterinarians for OIE day 1 competencies through oral examinations for major courses and research-based thesis defense evaluations.

Thank you for your interest in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the Borana University. This is a very exciting time to consider veterinary medicine as a career. Our education will prepare the students for every facet of critical thinking, problem solving, and life-long learning. Our school is a place where energetic and inclusive community gathered where diversity is celebrated, and collaboration is encouraged. As everyone interact with his/her fellow students, faculty, and staff, everyone will find a network of support that extends beyond the classroom. I wish you the best and hope to have you as part of our community.
