Overview
Borana University School of Law is one of recently established and prestigious law school in our country. It was founded in 2013 E.C/2020 G.C as Independent School. As of now, the school has 11 full teaching staff & 3 instructors on study leave. Since its establishment, the school has been working strongly to offer quality education for its students, and its staff members also in addition to teaching and learning, have been engaging in research and community service. From community service the school has been providing, free legal aid service was one essential service that the school provides for the surrounding community with economic and social problems. The school’s Legal Aid Center Coordination office found at Borana University and Legal Aid Center found at Yabello and Moyale Town. For the future the school has plan to extend its center to different district. The school is working with the vision of becoming one of the strong schools of Law in Ethiopia by 2030 in providing quality legal education and in conducting problem solving research that contributes to the improvement of the life of the community.
The school is also an active member of the Consortium of Ethiopian Law schools since 2022. By efforts of its duly responsible and committed staff, the school is contributing its fair share for the strength of the consortium itself and it is also strictly implementing the decisions that are passed by the consortium. To name, but a few, the school has participated on the different consortium discussion at different time since it is membership and also the Amazing National Conference which held on the May 2-3,2025 at Borana University, Yaballo town in collaboration with Ethiopian Federal Justice and Law Institute on the theme of “Legal pluralism, Human rights and Transitional Justice in Ethiopia.” Was unforgettable Events. In addition to the above-mentioned activities the school also participating in the administration of National Law Exit Exam.
These facts indicate that despite its young age, the school is remarkably vibrant that is run by very energetic, hard-working, and visionary staff members who work day and night for change and excellence in this very competitive academic world.
Admission criteria
For the regular program a student who has successfully accomplished a first semester common courses and have scored CGPA of 3.00 and above, for male, and 2.75 and above, for female can apply. The school administers screening written exam to select competent students from amongst the applicants.
Regarding weekend program applicants who have successfully accomplished higher education entrance exam passing mark, determined by the Ministry of Education, and a person who have taken legal education in diploma and who fulfil any other criteria put down by MoE can apply for admission.

Students
The school provides general legal education at undergraduate level in regular and weekend programs. The school, upon its opening in 2013 E.C/2020 G.C., has accepted 19 regular students and above 40 Weekend program students which fulfil the above-mentioned criteria for Admissions.
Now the School has 3(Three) Regular program Batch: – 2nd Year, 3rd Year and 5th year regular students and One (1) weekend program batch: – 5th year weekend students. Thus, the school totally in both batch has 84 students, 77- Male and 7- Female students.
Graduated students
Since it is youngest school, the school graduate 19 student for the first time on Sene 14, 2017/2025 G.C. From those students 15 of them passed National Exit Exam and the highest Exit Exam score was 70/100 which scored by 3 students.

Mission
The mission of the school is to produce competent and ethical legal professionals adequately, conducting research that solves the communities’ problems, rendering researched community services, creating strong linkages and cooperation with higher education and research institutions of the country and abroad.
